Amazon KDP

From idea to KDP-ready, honestly labeled

Amazon asks three questions about AI when you publish. Wrightebook answers them from your book’s real history — what was drafted, what you edited — and prints the disclosure on the copyright page, so you upload with a straight answer and a clean file.

[1]The three KDP questions

Answered from your book’s history, not from a guess.

At export, Wrightebook reads what happened to each chapter and tells you what to answer.

  1. 01

“Did you use AI-based tools to create this content?”

Yes — the chapters were AI-drafted from your approved outline and source list. The export screen says so, and the copyright page carries the line.

  2. 02

    “Text: AI-generated or AI-assisted?”

AI-generated. KDP counts AI-drafted text as generated even after substantial edits. The export screen shows how many chapters you edited, so you can describe your role accurately.

  3. 03

“Did a person review and edit the content?”

You approved the outline, read the consistency notes and edited chapters in the workspace — and the screen only lets you claim editing you actually did.

[2]What KDP actually says

The definitions, quoted.

AI-generated
“We define AI-generated content as text, images, or translations created by an AI-based tool. If you used an AI-based tool to create the actual content (whether text, images, or translations), it is considered ‘AI-generated,’ even if you applied substantial edits afterwards.”

AI-assisted
“If you created the content yourself, and used AI-based tools to edit, refine, error-check, or otherwise improve that content (whether text or images), then it is considered ‘AI-assisted’ and not ‘AI-generated.’”

Source: Amazon KDP Content Guidelines, checked 27 August 2026. KDP requires disclosure of AI-generated content in new and edited books; “you are not required to disclose AI-assisted content.” Wrightebook drafts your chapters, so a Wrightebook book is AI-generated by this definition — and we print that on the copyright page rather than leave you to work it out at upload.

[3]Files KDP accepts

Upload-ready, not almost-ready.

  • 6×9 in PDF — the trim KDP paperbacks use — with margins, running heads and page numbers set
  • Cover with front, spine and back, real type, your palette (10 credits)
  • Copyright page with the AI-disclosure line already printed
  • Table of contents and endnotes generated from the chapters
  • A consistency pass so names, numbers and promises match across chapters
  • EPUB for the Kindle store arriving on paid plans; KDP accepts PDF meanwhile

[4]Questions

What authors ask about this

Does Amazon KDP allow AI-generated books?

Yes. KDP requires you to tell Amazon when a new or edited book contains AI-generated content; it does not require disclosure for AI-assisted content. Wrightebook answers the questions from your book’s real history and prints the disclosure on the copyright page.

If I edit the chapters, is my book still “AI-generated”?

Under KDP’s definition, yes: text created by an AI-based tool counts as AI-generated “even if you applied substantial edits afterwards.” Say so. Editing still makes a better book — it just does not change the label.

What files do I upload to KDP?

A 6×9-inch PDF for the paperback and the ebook. Cover with front, spine and back. EPUB is arriving on paid plans; KDP also accepts PDF for ebooks.

Can I list the book under my own name?

Yes. You are the author and publisher of record; you own the manuscript, cover and files. The AI disclosure is about how the text was produced, not who wrote the book.

What does it cost to make a KDP book?

A 10-chapter researched book is about 61 credits plus 10 for the cover. The free plan includes 80 credits once and exports a watermarked preview; a clean export is $9 for a single book or included on any paid plan.

Research, cited chapters, a designed cover and a print-ready file — with the disclosure written for you from what actually happened.
